FAU Heritage Park Towers & Glades Park Towers
Boca Raton, FL
Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton is growing rapidly in its quest to become a University rather than a Community College. On campus housing for the Boca Raton students is an integral part of this vision of growth. In 2003, we were part of a Design-Build team with C.R. Klewin Southeast and PGAL Architects to deliver 600 beds in a staggering short period of 18 months from the start of concept drawings.
Through deign development, all structural systems were evaluated and an all steel structure with tilt-up cladding panels was selected. Seven story columns and braced frames were erected first followed by the composite beam floor framing. Tilt-up panels were cast and set in three lifts along the exterior of the towers as the floor framing moved up the skeleton. The central connector building was constructed last to allow access to all sides of the towers during their construction.
The success of this project and the ability to deliver the product in such a short time frame gave us another opportunity to repeat the towers in 2006 with the Glades Park Tower project. That facility opened for the fall 2007 school year.
