West Boca Branch Library

Boca Raton, FL

The new West Boca branch library is a 20,000 square foot facility that is designed to be expanded to 40,000 square feet in the future. This modern facility opened in February 2009 with much anticipation. The building features typical book stack areas, an extensive childrens area, meeting rooms available to the community, wireless internet, and public computers.

The building exterior is comprised of load bearing tilt-up walls residing on conventional spread footing foundations. The central tower, a focal point and light well for the entrance, is comprised of 38 foot tall panels. The tiered parapet walls in front of the tower were also created using tilt-up panels supported by steel beams. As the branch is located in a mostly residential area, a partial truss roof was used to soften the feel of the exterior. Pre-engineered metal trusses were used in the front elevation to give the building a more residential feel.
